As exemplified by the Kangquan Newtown Community case, brownfields, both known and unknown, and the associated latent problem of groundwater pollution will do their irrecoverable harm to urbanization sooner or later. The Kangquan case has exposed the absence of monitoring in the current land development system, the immaturity of renovation technologies, and the deficiency of soil legislation, all of which further complicate the brownfield problem. The way-out may lie in the establishment of the classified management information system and the implementation of phased abatement.
