During the period of the draft "Natural Heritage Protection Law" has been sent to the Standing Committee of National People's Congress of China for review,a group of experts from research and conservation fields organized themselves voluntarily as the "Natural Conservation Legislation Research Group" and provided the recommendations of developing a comprehensive law of "Protected Area Law",including recommendations of establishing rational management category system and functional zonation system,developing scientific-based planning of Protected Area System,establishing supervision system of government,scientific community and civil society,guaranteeing funding for conservation management of protected areas and engaging in local communities on conservation and getting benefit from it sustainably.The group also has been trying hard to promote legislation by education,workshops,high level communication and recommendations to the government.This is an important case of civil society heavily involved in promoting national legislation development process. <<
