Until today, the 2011 Bohai Sea oil spill incident has not come to an end. Disputes over follow-up pollution treatment, environment renovation and compensation have been constantly heard. On one side,Chinese courts remain indifferent to the compensation claim; on the other side, the Ministry of Agriculture and the National Ocean Service advocate a wholesale compensation package. Instead of becoming a typical ocean pollution and compensation case, the incident has fallen victim to the need of maintaining stability. Disappointed angry fishermen have been seeking legal support in the U.S.,complicating the scene further. In face of successive ocean pollution incidents in the last year, there is no reason for us to be optimistic. Ocean pollution remains out of sight and largely overlooked.
