The large-scale population flow took place in 1980s of 20 Century has been one of most influential events for China’s economic society since reform and opening-up.According to fifth national census, there are 121.07 million floating population who spend more than half year on average outside of hometown. In the past 10 years, above 88.40 million rural labors achieved transformation to non-agriculture sections.According to National“11th Five Year”Plan,by 2010,China’s urbanization level will be up to 47% and there will be around 9 million rural labors enter cities every year.Such large-scale population transfer is unprecedented in the process of global urbanization and incomparable to America,Japan and any countries in Europe and South Asia.It brings forward severe challenges to construction of harmonic society in China. In fact, the process of rural labors entering cities is the process of reconstruction of their social network. The so-called social network refers to relations network formed as the result of social interaction among people,in this kind of interpersonal relations, individual can be regarded as point, relation between individual and individual or individual and group can be regarded as line, the connection structure between point and line and its dynamic changing form social network. The particular people’s social network is always self-centered and extends outward for self-interests.(Barnes,1954). According to the theory of French sociologist Bourdieu(Pierre Bourdieu),the essence of social network is a kind of social capital, individual owned social network and capability of obtaining social resources through the social network mobilization, including trust, family affection, participation, mutual benefits,(Bourdieu,1986). The issue that we concerned is,in the tide of fast urbanization in China, more and more rural labors come into cities, after cutting off the space connection with country society, what kind of frame their network is and whether the network will become social capital ensuring to incorporate them into urban life and utilize the social resources from the network to support the course of their adaptation to urban life? Therefore,we conducted a survey in the relatively concentrated areas in Beijing for floating population including Dahongmen area,Guanganmenwaiwanzi area,Honglian area and east suburbs.
