The Changbaishan Nature Reserve was once challenged after a severe bear hunting incident was reported by the media in 2012.Will the cause of nature protection in the Changbaishan Nature Reserve be likely to stop for a lack of personnel？Has the damaged local ecosystem been restoring since the end of the large-scale trading of trees blown down by winds and of Korean pine seeds，both of which were severe cases of human interference？And how is it restoring？

This paper provides preliminary answers to the above-mentioned questions by describing how a new team of nature protectors faced challenges，changed their thoughts and turned pressure from media monitoring into a driving force for innovation，and how they made aggressive moves and efforts to finish a transition to modern ecological management from traditional department-led management.It also points out that such a transition is significant for improving the management of nature reserves across China and，thus，increasing the effectiveness of these reserves and the quality of the ecosystem.
