Social security system is not only a stabilizer for social and economic development，but an important element of our country to build a harmonious society as well.The improvement of urban social security system has a strong connection with the living standard of every resident.In this study，a survey on social security status was conducted among respondents in 35 cities.The results showed that half of the respondents had purchased social insurance and housing fund.Medical insurance and endowment insurance are the major concern of the residents；respondents were generally confident in government’s redemption of endowment insurance，over 60% of the respondents did not support the house-for-pension scheme，and dissatisfied with the dual-track system；generally，respondents’ satisfaction with social security status is average，and nearly half of the residents believed that inequities exist in social security system.There were significant differences in insurance status，satisfaction of social security，and the sense of fairness among respondents of different occupation and accounts.In order to consummate the social security construction，legislative process should be accelerated，and government investment should be increased. <<
