The Social Survey Center of Public Opinion Research Laboratory in Shanghai Jiao Tong University conducted a nationwide telephone survey and came up with the following findings:respondents thought that food safety was generally assured;they thought security issues in dairy products,fruits and vegetables,meat and products,aquatic and products,beverages,wine,cooking oil were more serious.Respondents believed that counterfeiting,food additives,and pesticide residues were the three major categories of food safety issues;they believed the biggest food safety risks existed in the stage of production and processing;nearly one third of the respondents had experienced food safety problems,such as expiration,counterfeit,substandard food hygiene in particular.The respondents were rather dissatisfied with the government’s work on food safety,they believed that the government’s lax enforcement is considered to be the main reason for food insecurity;around half of the respondents were confident in the improvement in the food security situation in the future.It also indicated that the higher the education level of the respondents,the lower degree of satisfaction they held with the government’s work;and it is the same with income situation.The respondents’ confidence about the future of food security was influenced by personal factors,perception of current food security situation,and the satisfaction of external regulatory system,and these three factors were progressively strengthened one after another.The main access channels for the respondents to attain food safety knowledge and information were televisions and the internet.Respondents would take various measures to circumvent food safety risks,but had relatively poor awareness on right-safeguarding.
