In the 21st century, with the rapid development of society and the continuous improvement of living conditions in recent years, the media has published various “urban happiness index” and “city happiness rankings”,but what exactly impacts the well-being of the residents is still unclear. In order to get a thorough understanding of the subjective well-being among the residents, the Social Survey Center of Public Opinion Research Laboratory in Shanghai Jiao Tong University conducted an investigation on residents’ subjective well-being in China’s 11 major cities. The results indicated a high subjective well-being of our residents, and it was influenced by economic status, health status, casual life, interpersonal relationship, the sense of city belongingness, personal accomplishment, degree of respect, and fulfillment of one’s individual values. The findings provided scientific data and references for our government in policy making, social development, and resident happiness improvement.
