Since 2011，the construction of Macaology as a discipline has entered a new historical stage，and research on Macaology continue to produce many new breakthroughs，especially in the aspects of theory，historical views，perspectives，issues，materials and methodology. The positive progress include：a continuous publication of research data，an extension of domains of research，an expansion of research horizons，a full innovation of research methods，a localisation in research logic. However，the research and development of Macaology also have many challenges，including an enhancement of the research team，an innovation of research foci，a construction of a professional research platform and a balance between research，training and service to the community. In technical terms，data collection and reconstruction of historical facts are necessary in order to deepen the knowledge system and theoretical building，and to define the necessary analytical tools and the fundamental concepts.
