Since the establishment of diplomatic relations 20 years ago, China and ROK have achieved tremendous development in their political, economic and cultural relations, but have always had an asymmetric relationship in the military and security fields. There are some hindering factors and the most fundamental ones are the DPRK and the United States. Therefore, China and ROK need to firmly grasp the positive side and, with a high degree of political wisdom, to handle the negative side and the problems between two countries. In 2013, the new South Korean government will draw on the lessons of Lee Myung-bak administration and adjust its foreign policy, placing more emphasis on the autonomy, diversity and balance of its foreign policy. This will help to promote the deepening and development of Sino-ROK strategic cooperative partnership.
