Centering on the same topic of the Nanking Massacre，two commercial films，City of Life and Death and The Flowers of War，present a rich sense of variation. From the perspectives of medium，structure of film narrative and gender order，city writing，political rhetoric of national identity and historical code of national narrative，this essay analyses the ideological implications of these two films. The narrative of national trauma in these films is closely related to the contemporary cultural identity of China and the international cultural market. Therefore，an ambiguous discursive field comes out as a result of the interaction between cultural consumption and political imagination，together with the relationship between national narrative and gender order，the conversation between nationalism and transnational identity as well as western centrism.
