2007年拉美经济形势的特点是：经济增长有所乏力，区域板块联动效应明显，地区大国经济走势出现差异，经济增长的质量有所提高；出口增长开始回落，并对贸易顺差和经常项目顺差产生不利影响，从而减少其对经济增长的贡献；消费需求进一步增长，成为拉动经济增长的主要动力；拉美国家的宏观经济政策平稳，局部政策性调整更加灵活和务实，经济整体抵御外部风险的能力有所增强。但是，2007年拉美经济也面临新的问题和挑战，通货膨胀压力加大，宏观经济政策面临新的考验，经济全球化加剧了国际竞争。2008年拉美经济将受到来自内部和外部的多重挑战，经济增长速度将会进一步放慢，拉美国家的宏观经济政策将经受新的考验。
<<Characteristics of the Latin American economy in 2007 could be summarized as the following：the economy continued to grow for the fifth consecutive year；there were differences in terms of growth for the major countries of the region；exports declined，causing unfavorable repercussions on the current account；consumption continued to grow；macroeconomic situation remained stable；and the capacity of the economy to resist external shocks was strengthened.The problems and challenges for the region’s economy included rising inflation pressure，macroeconomic imbalance and international competition from globalization.For 2008 the economy will grow at a lower rate and macroeconomic situation would face new challenges.
