This study mainly focuses on the evaluation of gender equality and women’s development in the area of family by adopting 9 indicators. It finds that the status of gender equality and women’s development in the area of family in China indicates a medium level and this trend has remained stable over years. Moreover，in terms of the wife-and-husband relationship and the distribution of resource and opportunity in family，gender equality has generally been achieved. In terms of the equal share of family responsibility，however，women still bear more responsibility than men.
