This report establishes a composite index on the basis of the six areas：-health，education，economy，politics and decisionpolicy-making，family and the social environment in which it is suitable for the assessment of gender equality and women’s development. It shows that there has been a great improvement on gender equality and women’s development has gained from 2005 to 2010 in China and the gap among different regions has been further narrowed down. Moreover，it recognizes disparities in the state of gender equality and women’s development among regions that have different levels of economic and social development. It concludes that although the status of gender equality and women’s development among regions links to the factor of GDP in individual region，its economic and social development will not necessarily bring forth the improvement of gender equality and women’s development.
