A telephone poll of a thousand respondents about legislation against domestic violence shows that the public has a high awareness of the term‘domestic violence’. Female respondents，respondents with higher education and respondents with urban-household registration have an even higher awareness. This study also finds that the public generally believes that domestic violence is an‘illegal’behavior，and that over 90 percent of the respondents support All-China Women’s Federation and the relevant departments to bring forth legislation against domestic violence.
