Shale gas is a clean and efficient unconventional gas resources, with advantages of wide distribution, long exploitation and production life cycles. However, it also has features of low permeability reservoir, low recovery, low abundance and difficult mining. In recent years, the United States achieved big breakthroughs in the shale gas exploration and development with rapid growth in output, which enhanced energy diplomacy of the United States, and strengthened its significant impacts to climate change and other aspects such as global gas markets, energy supply pattern, and geopolitical issues. These breakthroughs made Middle East who was originally planning to export natural gas to the U.S. turn to markets in Europe and Asia-Pacific area. Meanwhile, Russia adjusted its energy policies to European countries and China too. The successful experience of the U.S. in shale gas can surely be borrowed as an important reference to China to accelerate the development and utilization of shale gas and other unconventional oil and gas resource. It would vigorously promote the shale gas resources exploration and development and increase the supply of natural gas to ease the current contradictions in China, to adjust energy structures, and to eventually achieve energy conservation.
