In 2012,public opinion events involving environmental issues happened quite frequently and covered a more extensive field.Incidents like environmental pollution,disasters and accidents,environmental policies,new construction projects and projects under construction,environmental protection activities,etc,continued to come into public view,giving rise to feverish public speculations.Incidents such as Shifang event,Qidong event,the"group stroll"event caused by Tianjin PC Project,group events caused by Ningbo Zhenhai PX incident,frequently brought environmental pollution,environmental impact assessment system and other issues to the center of public opinion.The enhancement of the public's environmental awareness and the extensive use of new media posed greater challenges to environmental governance and governmental responses to public opinion.The great variety of incidents in 2012 reflects imperativeness and compulsory to popularize comprehensively the public's environmental protection knowledge and to promote environmental awareness,to improve environmental regulations and environmental impact assessment system and to increase investment in environmental protection.Meanwhile,relevant departments should coordinate the relations between environmental protection and economic development,and achieve the goal of sustainable development.As regards responses to public opinion,the relevant local governments and enterprises should respond positively to the reasonable requirements of the public,reveal public information timely and take the initiative to build a platform of multimedia communication,and draw lessons from the past,and construct a sound crisis management system. <<
