In this year，an unprecedented social unrest in Greece shocked the world. Forced to hold an early election，the then ruling party stepped down after a crushing defeat. While on the other hand，the Balkan countries which were constantly trapped in conflicts strengthened their cooperation and the Central Europe Summit was successfully held. However，the Balkan countries suffered a serious economic downturn with slower and even negative economic growth. The social problems caused by the economic recession are likely to inflict the region in the coming years. With respect to the relations between China and the Balkan countries，high-level exchanges have been maintained between the two sides，which have laid down a foundation for strengthening the existing relationship and promoting mutually beneficial ties. However，China should keep alert with the Turkish support for the “East Turkistan” forces.
