The 2012 survey on youth attitudes towards marriage and family in Guangzhou shows that when looking for a spouse the young people put emphasis on the inner qualities such as morality, personality and sensibilities, meanwhile in pursuit of capabilities and sensuous appeals. Attitudes towards relationships and marriage depart: in a romantic relationship the quality of morality is emphasized; in a marriage the material factors are involved and the attitudes toward having an affair are ambivalent.Family values are affected by the material production means. Occupation, income, and housing restrict one's inclination towards breeding. The awareness of responsibility in family education needs to be improved. The sex concept is relatively rational, and there is a fairly strong sense of responsibility for sex before marriage, but a not very high sense of safety about relationships involving sex. Considering the major problems presented in attitudes towards marriage, family and sex, this research calls for periodical education about relationships, marriage and sex, relevant regulations, general guidance and community responsibilities. <<
