During 2017-2021，the Ministry of Ecology and Environment experienced three stages in its routine press release：a steady start，a rapid development，and adherence to integrity and innovation. At present，the Ministry of Ecology and Environment has set the goals of its press release as follows：extensively gathering social consensus，serving the work of the environmental protection center，authoritatively issuing and interpreting policies，responding to concerns and solving doubts，mobilizing the masses to participate in science popularization，and connecting China and the outside world to display its image. Analysis of 59 routine press releases reveals that the routine news release system of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment has been continuously improved，the spokesman team gradually expanded，the business departments’ awareness of active release significantly boosted，the themes more specific，the release subjects more diversified，the released information growing rich，and the form innovated. However，there are still shortcomings. Considering the goal and direction of publicity in ecology and environment news in the next stage，this report also contains some expectations on the routine news release work of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment：The modernization of environmental governance capacity should be promoted with the routine news release as a starting point，the construction of a national action system should be promoted with the routine news release as a platform，the international environmental communication should be promoted with the routine news release as a channel，the environmental communication theory should be promoted with the routine news release as a practice.
