The ecological security in the Qilian Mountain is a national strategic issue of ecological security in the west of China that is of deep concern to General Secretary Xi Jinping. In 2017，the Central Comprehensively Deepening Reforms Commission considered and adopted the Qilian Mountains National Park System Pilot Program. The Ministry of Finance，the Ministry of Natural Resources，and the Ministry of Ecology and Environment further approved the Qilian Mountain as one of the first national pilot areas for the ecological protection and restoration of mountain-river-forest-field-lake-grassland system by launching and implementing the pilot project for ecological protection and restoration of mountain-river-forest-field-lake-grassland system in the Qilian Mountain and the Heihe River Basin. This report，taking the pilot projects of three departments as the starting point，uses the inductive analysis of typical cases to summarize the results of the pilot project for ecological protection and restoration of mountain-river-forest-field-lake system in the Qilian Mountain and the Heihe River Basin in Zhangye City，Gansu Province. The profound changes in the ecological protection of the Qilian Mountain over recent years fully illustrate that the principle of “mountain，river，forest，field，lake，grasslands and desert being part of a community of life” has been tested in the Qilian Mountain and that President Xi Jinping’s Thought on Ecological Civilization has been deeply rooted in people’s hearts.
