我国的航天育种技术和装备是逐步发展起来的,一些最基本和最简单的搭载方法被沿用至今,在今天仍然发挥着重要作用。例如植物种子材料的搭载,除了部分包装和封装材料的设计和材质还需进行因地制宜的更新外,基本的技术和流程已经逐渐标准化。而涉及植物活性材料、微生物菌株和动物的空间培养装置,仍难以定型,需要根据不同的飞行任务不断地进行调整设计和研制,以满足不同的在轨条件、时间和重量载荷等的要求。三十多年来,我国已经研制出一批空间动植物培养实验装置和技术模块,并积累了相对丰富的经验,为今后的空间生物实验装置研发奠定了基础。与此同时,为了研究空间各种类型的辐射方式和剂量、微重力水平等诱变因素,科研工作者也研制了一批与飞行器相配套的检测仪器,用于量化各个诱变因素对搭载材料的作用和影响,在实际研究中发挥了重要的作用,这是航天育种和空间生物学研究中不可或缺的环节。
