This report，based on International Transport Forum’s Road Safety in Cities：Street Design and Traffic Management Solutions as the core，discusses the main plans and practices of road safety development in international cities. We list the main principles to prevent human error and unpredictability，as well as serious injury and fatal impact on humans. The principles also advocate the joint responsibility of all parties in traffic and the combined force of all traffic operation systems. Furthermore，we conduct a comprehensive review of many international cities’ planning measures and practices in the areas，such as protection for bikers and pedestrians，speed management，pavement system optimization，and digital technology applications. Based on summarizing the experience from other international cities，we provide suggestions and references for optimizing urban transportation safety in China.
