China’s digital economy has maintained a rapid development trend in recent years. In 2021，the scale of digital economy exceeded 45.5 trillion yuan，accounting for 39.8% of China’s GDP. It is obvious that the digital economy has become the major driving force of economic development in the new era which continues to promote intelligent production and technological innovation. As a novel driving force for development，digital economy is certain to play a key role in quality and efficiency improvement of the manufacturing industry. Manufacturing is a pillar industry of national economic development. China has a significant market scale advantage and the most mature industrial system. Its manufacturing scale ranks first in the world. The booming digital economy accelerated the progress of global industrial and technological revolution that created a new opportunity for the sustainable development of manufacturing industry. Pudong is a pioneer of the digital economy and manufacturing development in Shanghai as well as the whole country. Pudong’s digital economy developed at top speed under the strong support of the local government，and its added value of manufacturing industry has stabilized at the trillion-yuan level for five consecutive years with the emerging of new business forms and models. In 2021，Pudong was entrusted with the heavy responsibility of the era as “a leading area for socialist modernization”. On the journey of building a high-quality leading area，Pudong should take the new opportunity brought by the development of the digital economy，and positively promote the transformation and upgrading of the manufacturing industry，so as to achieve a sustainable development of Pudong’s manufacturing industry.
