2021 is the first year of the 14th Five-Year plan. The goal of building a“leading sports nation” has been clear and China’s competitive sports’ development is getting to a new phase. This report sorts the achievements and important events of China’s competitive sports in 2021and looks forward to the direction of future development based on the summarized experiences. Taking the competitive sports news on the official website of the General Administration of Sport of the People’s Republic of China as the analyzed text，this report uses word frequency statistics and content analysis to sort the development achievements of China’s competitive sports in 2021：mega-events such as the Tokyo Olympic Games，the Beijing Winter Olympic Games and the Shaanxi national games have attracted a lot attention；the preparation for the next Olympic has been gradually underway；with the normalization of pandemic prevention and control，various domestic sports leagues at all levels have gradually resumed，injecting vitality into the development of sports. In terms of the important events that affect the development of competitive sports，based on the annual China’s top ten sports news selected by People’s Daily and Xinhua News Agency，this report analyzes the performance and characteristics of the important events related to competitive sports in 2021：the annual news focuses on the top-level design of China’s sports development，the participation and hosting of mega-events and the outstanding performance of excellent athletes. Finally，this report puts forward a conclusion and outlook on the current situation of the competitive sports’ development in China. Currently，unbalanced development of competitive sports still exists，thus it needs to be further adapted to the challenges of the adjustments of competition events and rules. At the same time，the sports events management system and structure still need to be further reformed.
