In 2021,Nicaragua held national elections and Daniel Ortega was elected president for a fourth consecutive term. The legitimacy of the election results was questioned and the Ortega government has faced domestic and international pressure. Nicaragua’s economy rebounded in 2021 due to increased exports from recovering international demand and a rebound in international market prices. Nicaragua has made remarkable achievements in the area of education,health,infrastructure,and sanitation. Nicaragua’s foreign policy focused on deepening diplomatic ties with the Bolivarian Alliance,Central American Integration System. Its relationship with the U.S. remains tense.
