While urbanization has brought many benefits,it has also posed such challenges as traffic congestion, decline in environmental quality, excessive consumption of resources and energy, and increased pressure on public services. In dealing with global climate change and implementing the national “30·60” dual carbon target, making the transportation industry, one of the pivotal emission sources, intelligent and green has become a vital means of carbon emission reduction. In November 2019,the Beijing Municipal Commission of Transportation and Amap jointly launched the Beijing Green Travel Integrated Service MaaS platform(Mobility as a Service). Beijing has become the first city in China to encourage citizens to participate in green travel in a carbon-inclusive manner. After users travel by bus, train, walking, cycling among others, the platform will automatically convert their travel mileage into the corresponding carbon emission amount, which can be used for exchanging bus cards, vouchers,or environmental welfare activities through the MaaS platform. In October 2021,the platform completed the world’s first green travel carbon trading, and all the proceeds were returned to users through rich incentives, thus establishing a successful closed-loop and sustainable operation model of green travel. As of March 2022,the green travel platform boasts more than one million registered users, some 420000 monthly active users, and nearly 100000 tons of carbon emissions have been slashed. The practice of green travel in Beijing is a telling example, also a successful model for green travel in mega-cities around the world.
