Large cruise ships are one of the most difficult ships to design and build in the shipbuilding industry. Their design and construction is a giant system project of modern industry and modern urban construction,which directly reflects a country’s comprehensive scientific and technological level and manufacturing strength. Large cruise ships,similar to high-speed railway multiple units and large passenger aircraft,are highly difficult to build products in the field of complex technology. They have the cross and customized product attributes of “ship+hotel+entertainment”. The design and construction cycle is long,with many changes,the overall layout requirements are high,the key technologies are difficult to attack,and the manufacturing difficulty and complexity are even higher than aircraft carriers and large liquefied natural gas ships. The three largest cruise ship construction enterprises in the world,Fencantini Group of Italy,Meier Shipyard of Germany and Atlantic Shipyard of France,have nearly a hundred years of shipbuilding experience and superb technology. They have undertaken about 90% of the global orders in total. At the same time,the supporting production of cruise ship construction is distributed in Europe. The design and construction of large cruise ships is an important measure to implement the development strategy of becoming a marine power,a manufacturing power,and a science and technology power,and to meet the aspirations of the Chinese people for a better life. Since the formal commencement of ignition steel plate cutting on October 18,2019,Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co.,Ltd. has created important milestones in promoting the construction of domestic large cruise ships,which is the most dazzling in the shipbuilding industry.
