Enhancing the competitiveness of enterprises’ digital economy innovation and building a gradient cultivation system for outstanding enterprises can help promote the overall digitalization of the national industry chain.This study dissects the innovation level of all digital economy enterprises in Guangdong Province from 2016 to 2020 and explores their industry and regional distribution.It is found that：digital economy enterprises in Guangdong Province are concentrated in the core area of the Pearl River Delta （PRD），with the highest comprehensive innovation level and an absolute scale advantage of about 95% in terms of the number of major，medium and small digital-economy categories；the comprehensive innovation level of enterprises in the east and west wings of the coastal economic belt is at a low level and the lowest number，with only Shantou following the core area of the PRD；the number of digital economy enterprises in the northern ecological zone is comparable to that in the east and west wings.Still，its innovation level is relatively better than the east and west wings.Different digital economy enterprises have differentiated characteristics in the innovation level of various digital element industries，and need to further release the corresponding regional advantageous resources in response to their industrial preferences.The multi-scale innovation evaluation of digital economy enterprises provides some theoretical support and practical insights for enterprises to follow the operation rules of the digital economy and promote customized change management.
