<<Mukbang culture is either a tidal wave of network broadcast or a sort of cultural practice of the aestheticization of everyday life. To put three meals a day into the live broadcasting demonstrates how the regular meals can be shaped profoundly by modern urban culture and consumerism in contemporary society. Drawing from a thorough research on empirical studies and textual analysis, this paper probes into the way that contemporary Chinese youth establishes the Mukbang culture based on the internet. Mukbang is a type of visual culture under the context of new media technology,an anti-performativity discourse practice that challenges the set paradigm of body aesthetics,a symbolic system with youth sub-cultural style,as well as a burgeoning phenomenon of mass culture in the era of digital creative industry. Moreover, the Mukbang culture reveals the psychological defense mechanisms of Chinese youth, which can be regarded as a rebellion towards the rationalization and globalization of food,an escaping from frustration and alienation of the city life, and a consistent pursuit of the spiritual comfort and self-identification.
