As an important indicator of a country’s innovation and entrepreneurship and employment capacity，scientific literacy and skills of urban workers has become a strong support for China’s construction of a new development pattern. On the basis of summarizing the status quo，practices for improving and situation of scientific literacy and skills of urban workers，this paper proposes future directions for promoting scientific literacy and skills of urban workers from following 7 aspects：adhering to the employment priority policy，optimizing the departmental coordination mechanism，highlighting the importance of industry and enterprise，focusing on flexible workers，paying attention to digital capacity improvement，promoting the construction of training standards，and strengthening fundamental capacity building.
