Sports tourism is an emerging industrial form of deep integration of sports industry and tourism industry，and it is a modern life style that people like to see. This study uses case analysis method to analyze the types，spatial and temporal distribution and causes of 181 sports tourism safety accidents in China in 2021，and puts forward specific management suggestions. The results show that：from the perspective of accident types，the types of sports tourism accidents are diversified，land events have the highest number of accidents，mountaineering accidents have the highest number of accidents，and outdoor swimming has the highest death rate. From the causes of accidents，the highest number of trapped accidents，drowning deaths；Sports tourism safety accidents are widely distributed in time and space. From the time scale，they occur in 12 months of the whole year，and the peak is in July and August in summer vacation. In terms of spatial scale，accidents occurred widely in 28 provinces，autonomous regions and municipalities，among which Zhejiang province had the highest number of accidents. Overall characteristics：high coupling of spatio-temporal factors，wide scope of accident and large impact，many hidden dangers are difficult to prevent. Therefore，we can promote the high-quality development of sports tourism in China by carrying out safety education，formulating laws and regulations，strengthening management，establishing early warning system，constructing rescue network and developing insurance products.
