Based on the survey data of the national science popurlarizaiton statistics from 2016 to 2020，the development of S&T museums，S&T related museums，and teenage S&T museums in China during the 13th five-year plan period was analyzed from three aspects：resource construction，operation，and effectiveness. The study shows that S&T popularization venues in China has made steady progress，and the number，exhibition area，and fund investment have increased. However，there are some problems to be solved，such as unbalanced regional development，single channel to raise funds，talent shortage，and the weak development of the teenage S&T museums etc. In this regard，the countermeasures for coordinating the balanced development of S&T popularization venues，exploring a diversified investment mechanism，establishing dedicated professional training mechanism，innovating the business development，and strengthening operation monitoring and evaluation are proposed.
