This report analyzes the current situation of Guangdong’s utilization of foreign direct investment （FDI）in recent years under the development of digital economy. The analysis indicates that the digital industries has become the main industries in attracting FDI in Guangdong. Particularly，a rapid increase of FDI is due to the attraction of the information services，R&D and design services，professional technical services and scientific and technological achievement transformation services in the digital industries. Meanwhile，the development of industrial digitization has also become the main factor in attracting foreign investment，in which the growth of FDI in digital commerce is the most obvious. Those show the great potential of the development of digital economy to expand the amount of foreign capital utilization and improve the quality of foreign capital absorption. This report also analyzes the favorable factors and opportunities for Guangdong to attract foreign investment under the development of digital economy. We think that the rapidly developing digital industries and their growing role for the economy will attract more foreign investment. Especially，the rapid growth of digital trade will attract more trade oriented FDI. Good digital infrastructure will also become a powerful factor to attract foreign firms through greatly promoting production efficiency. Moreover，the development of digital technology will attract more investment in intangible assets and from developed countries. However，Guangdong will also face some severe challenges in the future to attract foreign investment，such as the continuous decline of the growth rate of global direct investment，the reduction of green investment and other traditional investment modes，the intensification of competition with developed countries and regions，and the increasing investment protectionism. In this regard，several countermeasures and suggestions to improve Guangdong’s utilization of foreign capital in the era of digital economy are finally put forward，for the reference of relevant departments.
