With methods of questionnaire and interview，we study 10 district-level converged media centers in Guangzhou，China. This study shows that these media centers are facing the following problems：unable to improve because of uncertainty in the role of media center；staff of the media centers are lack of motivation because of outdated assessment system；the journalism activities are effected by the administrative power；the resources in the media center is too limited to serve the public；it’s difficult for the staff to change the way they think and work. To overcome these problems，here’s some advice：be clear about the role of media center；advance the salary reform by class-ification，and improve the assessment and evaluation system；focus on local content and improve the new media content producing capability；integrate resources to innovate grassroots society governance；build a team of talents and professionals.
