The historical and cultural district of Shangxiajiu-Shifu is a witness of the sprouting of local commerce driven by foreign trade in Guangzhou，a vibrant link that continues and brings together the culture of the millennium-old commercial capital，and a typical example of traditional overhang commercial street in Lingnan region. Its preservation and utilization have been the key concerns in Guangzhou’s urban renewal work. In the protection and upgrading of the Shangxiajiu-Shifu historical and cultural district，it is necessary to improve the protection of the overall traditional appearance of the district，restore the historical appearance，strengthen the protection and management of the historical and cultural resources and the historical environment of the district and update the use of the district，as well as to improve the district’s business mode，so as to become a historical and cultural district integrating commercial interaction，cultural experience and entertainment.
