Marine surveying and mapping provides basic marine geoinformation data for various ocean-related activities. At present，construction of maritime power has been a long-term strategic goal of China. The importance of marine surveying and mapping has been highlighted. The increasing frequency of various ocean-related activities puts forward an urgent need for the cultivation of talents in ocean surveying and mapping. This article introduced the current situation of China’s ocean surveying and mapping higher education from the aspects of discipline construction，representative academic institutions in the field，and talent cultivation. The status of cultivation development and future directions were analyzed.
