In order to understand the current situation and the of existing problems of cultivation of surveying & mapping and geoinformation talents of China，relevant information about surveying and mapping majors were collected and analyzed. These information consists of cultivation objectives，disciplines，and curriculum systems. From the results，it is found that the quality of cultivation of surveying & mapping majors is good. Meantime，there are still some problems，such as unclear characteristics of professional objectives，insufficient ntegration between disciplines，prominent homogeneity among majors and universities，and obsolete professional skills. It is recommended that the OBE concept be used as a guide to redefine the boundaries of various majors in surveying & mapping，condense the core knowledge，abilities，skills and accomplishments of each major，reconstruct the curriculum system，and promote the high-quality development of higher education in surveying & mapping.
