From September to November 2020，the Republic of Palau held the twelfth general election. In the election，former senator Surangel S.Whipps was elected president. A parallel race for vice president was won by former senator Uduch Sengebau Senior. In the parliamentary election，seven of the 13 members of the Senate were re-elected，and most incumbents including Speaker Sabino Anastacio kept their seats in the House of Representatives. The results of the general election show that the presidential election in Palau has continued the political ecology of independent candidates，and the absentee ballot is still an important factor affecting the general election in Palau.
