This paper first discusses the background of rural tourism’s development in China and its significance to the development of tourism industry in Guangdong，Hong Kong and Macao，highlighting its important role in promoting the integration and development of rural industries，increasing peasants’ employment and income，helping rural areas out of poverty，and encouraging the urban-rural transformation in the new era. Then it introduces the background of the development of rural tourism in the Great Bay Area，and explains how it uses its regional advantages and urban forces to promote the diversification and high-quality development of rural tourism. With nine cities in the mainland as the main body，the article combs the development status and characteristics of rural tourism in the region in detail，and points out that its problems are mainly reflected in three aspects，namely，insufficient rural tourism land and poor coordination of supporting policies；backward infrastructure construction，and lack of industry standards；initial stage of industrial development，and lagging talent team construction. Finally，the article believes that the construction of rural tourism in Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao should strengthen their organization and management capacities，and establish an effective evaluation system. At the same time，governments at all levels should introduce corresponding talent policies and benefit-sharing mechanisms to attract young people to return to their hometowns for development. In addition，it is necessary to further promote the tourism brand construction of “Yuemei Village” and pastoral complex in the Great Bay Area，and actively use the demonstration site cluster to create a high-quality rural tourism route，so as to improve toughness and popularity of rural tourism in this area.
