This report takes the Chinese listed firms in 2020 as the analysis object. On the basis of introducing the general situation of overseas investment，we make a quantitative analysis of overseas investment enterprises from six dimensions including investment region，investment field，investment mode，regional distribution，company industry and ownership structure. Analysis shows that the total amount of overseas investment continues to shrink in 2020. The main investment modes are independent investment，capital increase and M&A. The investment areas are mainly developed countries；The investment fields tend to be diversified and focus on finance，metals and information technology services；The regional distribution is not balanced，which is characterized by “more in the East and less in the west”；Investment enterprises mainly come from manufacturing and mining；Private enterprises are the main types of investment enterprises，but state-owned enterprises have stronger driving power. Combined with the analysis of typical enterprise cases，this report believes that，under the new situation，Chinese enterprises’ overseas development needs to be based on bilateral and multilateral cooperation mechanisms，guided by national needs and government’s foreign investment policies，and enhance the consciousness of risk prevention，so as to promote high-quality development of overseas investment.
