This report examines the current status and problems in the preservation of immaterial cultural heritage in Tongzhou section of the Grand Canal. It proposes ideas and countermeasures for the preservation and utilization of immaterial cultural heritage in Tongzhou section of the Grand Canal on the basis of the experience learned from cases ofcanal cultural heritage preservation both in China and abroad：adopting an overlooking perspective and establishing an interdis-ciplinary institutional mechanism；playing the leading role of the government and gathering the participation of social forces；combine inheritance and innovation，promoting the revitalization and utilization of the Grand Canal immaterial cultural heritage；fostering the source and strengthening the root，enriching and improving the training system of inheritors；honing theoretical research to help upgrade the quality of the Grand Canal immaterial cultural heritage；boosting the construction of carrier platforms to create a suitable environment for the preservation and inheritance of the Grand Canal.
