This article introduces the management categories and governance types of protected areas from international perspectives，summarize the development history，current status and challenges of privately protected areas globally，and systematically analyzes the conservation mechanisms，status and incentive measures for privately protected areas in U.S.，Australia and Brazil，in order to provide best practices and experiences for civil protected areas in China.
