Voluntary service is an important social force in grass-roots social governance. Understanding the current situation of volunteers in China will help us to promote the sustainable development of voluntary service. Therefore，this report uses the voluntary service data from the 2021 Chinese Social Survey to analyze the current development status of active volunteers in China，and compares it with that in 2019. The study finds that：（1）Active volunteers in China account for about 30% of the total respondents，and the amount of volunteers，the degree of participation and the economic contribution are significantly higher than those in 2019；（2）Compared with non-active volunteers，active volunteers are younger with higher political participation，better family economic background and more positive social mentality；（3）There are some differences in the participation rate of various voluntary service fields，and the imbalance of regional development and the mismatch of supply and demand are more prominent；（4）Although the network of voluntary service，the level of specialization and the training rate of voluntary services have been improved，they are still at a low level. Finally，this report summarizes the development trend and existing problems of volunteers and voluntary service in China，and puts forward corresponding suggestions.
