As one of the important means of university evaluation，university ranking activity interprets the quality and level of running a university with its unique way. Through the investigation and analysis of the development status of Henan private colleges and universities，this paper uses the weighted average method to analyze the comprehensive competitiveness of Henan private colleges and universities in the national regional distribution and the scientific research competitiveness of Henan private colleges and universities in the national regional distribution，and demonstrates the comprehensive scientific research strength of Henan private colleges and universities in the country. It provides a reference for decision-making for the implementation of the connotative development of private higher education in Henan and the guidance of governments at all levels for the healthy development of private higher education. The research shows that the research competitiveness of private universities in China is stronger in the south and weaker in the north.Although the private universities and independent colleges in Henan are at the upper level in the ranking of the scientific research competitiveness of the national private universities，only in terms of the national scientific research fund projects，the gap is obviously larger than that of the local undergraduate universities in the same period，which is also the weak link of most private universities and independent colleges. Private colleges and universities in Henan need to further increase the investment in scientific research，introduce talents with higher education and higher level，and improve the existing talent structure.
