According to the data of China’s provincial sustainable development index system, the municipalities directly under the Central Government and the eastern coastal provinces rank relatively high, and the top 10 cities are Beijing,Shanghai,Zhejiang,Guangdong,Tianjin,Fujian,Jiangsu,Hubei,Chongqing and Sichuan. The four municipalities directly under the central government are located in the top 10;In addition, among the top 10,there are four major economic provinces in the southeast coastal areas:Zhejiang Province,Guangdong Province,Fujian Province and Jiangsu Province, which shows that the level of economic development is positively correlated with the degree of sustainable development; For the first time,Chongqing and Sichuan Province appeared in the top 10 in the western region, which represented the country’s emphasis on ecological protection in the western region, and also reflected the strong promotion of local governments for sustainable development; There is only one place in Hubei Province in the central region, which reflects that the central region is in a period of transformation and adjustment of high-quality development and undertaking industrial transfer;None of Northeast China has been selected into the top 10,which reflects the shortcomings and gaps in sustainable development in Northeast China. From the five classification indicators of economic development, social livelihood, resources and environment, consumption and emission and environmental governance, the sustainable development of provincial regions has obvious unbalanced characteristics. The degree of imbalance is measured by the extremely poor ranking of indicators at the local level. There are 11 provinces with high imbalance (difference value > 20),namely Beijing,Guangdong,Tianjin,Fujian,Shandong,Yunnan,Henan,Qinghai,Guizhou,Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and Jilin Province. There are 17 provinces with moderate imbalance (10 < difference value ≤20),namely Shanghai,Jiangsu,Hubei,Chongqing,Sichuan,Hainan,Hunan,Jiangxi,Anhui,Shaanxi,Hebei,Liaoning,Gansu,Shanxi,Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region,Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region and Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region. There is one province that is relatively balanced (difference value ≤10),which is Zhejiang Province. Although most provinces and cities have significantly improved the level of sustainable development, there is still much room for improvement, and the imbalance between regions and fields is still outstanding.
