At present,China aims to have carbon peaking before 2030 and achieves carbon neutrality before 2060. Carbon peaking is a prerequisite for achieving the goal of carbon neutrality. 2021 is the first year of the 14th Five-Year Plan. As the main battlefield to achieve the carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals,the new situation will also put forward new requirements on the path of carbon peaking and carbon neutrality in cities. Based on the results of China’s low-carbon city pilot work and the classified discussion of the situation of 60 cities,this paper identified the common and different characteristics of the path of carbon peaking in China’s cities and made it clear that according to their development and emission characteristics,different cities need to reach the carbon peaking at different stages. And this paper also offers suggestions for the work of carbon peaking.
