The development of high schools at county-level is a crucial part of China’s education reform. As an important participant in the reform，the career development of county-level high school teachers directly affects the process and effectiveness of the reform. This paper analyses the characteristics of teachers’ career development in county areas at current stage from three aspects：the structural characteristics、career satisfaction and career expectations. The gender structure and age structure of the county level high school teachers are relatively balanced；the structure of professional titles is basically well configured；and the level of teachers’ education qualifications needs to be further improved. The overall satisfaction of teachers’ promotion and remuneration is low，and there is low level of satisfaction with remuneration criteria for teachers at county level. Teaching positions provide a high sense of occupational security for practitioners based on job developmental stability and the higher social status.
