In 2020，the work of child welfare withstood the test and achieved success in various areas in the face of a sudden epidemic. This article introduces the development of child welfare in 2020，including the breakthrough in legislation，achievements in poverty-alleviation，further improvement in system，effectiveness in epidemic prevention and control，continuous deepening of care services，enhancement of the workforce’s capability to perform their duties，and standardization of adoption work. It also analyzes the existing problems and difficulties，such as the imperfect legal system，working forces without synergy，insufficient capability of the personnel，and inadequate function of two types of institutions. Based on these analyses，suggestions have been put forward for the next step of work from strengthening the top-level design and improving the working mechanism，to strengthening the family guardianship competence and building a four-level care service platform.
