To develop medical and health services for the elderly to keep the vitality of socio-economic development by healthy aging is the inevitable requirement in the implementation of active aging strategy. In our country the chronic disease prevalence in older population is high, the disabled elderly group is expanding, mental health in the elderly deserves special attention and the health gapexists between urban and rural elderly. In spite of the tremendous progress in the development of healthcare undertakings in our country and the enhanced capability of medical and health services for the elderly, there are still many serious problems in this regard. Conventional health promotion campaign should be organized in the elderly, the basic medical insurance schemes should be completed, multi-level medical security should be improved, medical and health services care for the elderly should be equalized, professional geriatrics care for the elderly should be strengthened and the capability of medical care at grass-roots level should be upgraded. <<
